Mission Statement:

My theoretical and philosophical orientation is based on the work of many teachers, trainers, and mentors over the years, enhanced by my own experience of relationships and life. I operate with knowledge and understanding of the diverse range of mainstream counselling approaches though primarily trained as a family systems therapist. Predominantly I draw my approaches from Family Systems Therapy of Virginia Satir, differentiation concepts of Murray Bowen, Structural Family Therapy of Salvador Minuchin, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy of pioneers Robert Ellis and Aaron Beck and more recently Arnold Lazarus., Solution Focused and Narrative therapy drawn from the work of Steve deShazer, Michael White and David Epston which are based strongly on a social constructivist philosophy, and of course Contextual Therapy of Boszormenyi-Nagy with its existential, systemic and intergenerational dimensions. I practice with feminist post-modernist values.

Integrating spiritual subtleties from years of studying the Bible, Maslow, Buber, Yalom, Frank, and Jung, I emphasize rites of passage, rituals, the exploration of values and ethics. I probably practice more from the Transcendental or Subjective Model of Contextual Theology. I am specially trained as a pastoral counsellor to address the unique spiritual needs of clients. I have a particular interest in specializing in Trauma therapy and have trained extensively in the theory and practice of EMDR.

I have the confidence and skill to reflect on my professional practice, seek supervision as necessary, and am committed to undertaking further education and training.
