Mission Statement:

I work primarily from a Cognitive-Behavioural perspective, meaning that therapy is based on collaboratively helping clients to understand how their own cognitions affect their moods and behaviour, and how certain common lifelong belief patterns can be modified. Clients are helped to become morally responsible for their own actions by identifying their needs, their actual behaviour and discrepancies between these, with the goal of making desired changes.

I believe in a teamwork approach to counselling - goals will be established with the client in the first few sessions. These goals will be revisited on a regular basis to ensure positive movement and continued input from the client into their own therapy. Cognitive- Behavioural therapy focusees on identifying and coaching people in the acquisition, refinement, and maintenance skills they need to learn to overcome problems in everyday living and to establish more successful coping styles.

In all of this there is much room to integrate a Christian world-view and philosophy of life. Cognitive-Behavioural Therapy is a framework, a systematic model designed toward helping people. It is, however, not the batteries that make counselling work. The focus of Free To Live Counselling Service is Christ and the saving grace offered through a personal relationship with God. The focus is not on a counselling model. As such, the model will never trump the truths found in scripture, which is the ultimate model for living while living here on earth. The therapeutic model is one of the means to the end, but not the mean. That spot is reserved for God.
